Municipal Airport
Located approximately three miles west of the city limits, the Mount Vernon Municipal Airport is under direct city management. As a result, it has experienced substantial improvements in regards to runways, taxiways, and hangars. A widening and repaving of the existing runway, associated taxiways, and aircraft parking aprons has been completed. New pilot controlled runway lighting is also included in the upgrade project along with future provisions for GPS navigation aids. Finally, there is a hangar space available for aircraft lease storage. Construction of additional hangar space is being considered as the demand warrants. Future plans include the availability of fuel and establishment of an FBO to manage operations as airport activity increases. Today an appointed Airport Committee exists in an advisory capacity that meets to consider items and make recommendations for review by the Board of Alderman.
The runway is 60' x 3,200', oriented 18-36. Airport identifier is 2MO with CATF 122.9. Lighting is medium intensity type, pilot controlled.
